Felting is an ancient craft which is just as useful and relevant today as it was 3000 years and in more recent less industrialised times. Wherever there are sheep and wool, societies have made felt. The craft of felting is an inexpensive yet versatile and exceptionally creative activity.

The Canberra Region Feltmakers has existed for over 10 years, originally formed by a small group of people with similar interests. CRF now has over 130 members.

Our members are skilled craftswomen and men. Look through the amazingly varied work displayed in our online gallery.

Meetings

CRF holds monthly meetings to enable members to work on joint projects and share experiences. It also holds an annual exhibition, providing members with the opportunity to showcase their work, through the exhibition proper, a fashion parade and a bazaar all open to the public.

Workshops and other facilities

CRF hold workshops for beginners as well as for our more experienced felters.

CRF runs its own shop to give members access to many of their equipment and materials supplies at very competitive rates. It also has a library of useful and inspirational materials for members to borrow.

CRF maintain close links with many similar groups throughout Australia and overseas to share ideas and encourage cross-fertilisation. CRF endeavour to hold workshops using the talents of locally based felters and visiting artisans from many other localities and countries. CRF is part of an international network of textile artist groups.

Events this year:
Annual Exhibition and Buyers’ Bazaar from 29th May to 1st June, 2008
Bus Depot Markets
